8 Gifts for Gym Rats in Your Life

By Kaitlin Bitz Candelaria | January 28, 2016
gifts for gym ratsWe are officially two weeks out from Valentine’s Day, but what do you get the CrossFitter who has everything?

Finding gifts for gym rats can be difficult — their only hobbies are lifting heavy and doing burpees, they’re picky about what brands they use and they usually already have all every piece of gym gear under the sun.

Each year around Christmas and birthdays, I try to get creative with gifts for my husband (or myself!) What are things we can use in the gym that a) we don’t already have and b) everyone else doesn’t already have either?

1. RokForm Magnetic Phone Case, $39.99

For Christmas this year, I got my husband a RokForm Rugged magnetic phone case. Not only is the magnetic phone case cool in every day life — he can stick it on the oven hood while he cooks or mount in his car while he’s driving — it’s especially cool in the gym.

Do you ever get tired of running back and forth between where your phone is sitting and the rig at the gym trying to figure percentages and weight loads? With this bad boy, you can simply slap the phone on the rig at eye level with everything you need to know pulled up right in front of you.

Need a timer? A calculator? A camera? One of these great fitness apps to help during your workout? All of those things are built right in to your phone and this case makes your phone a multi-faceted gym tool while you’re working out. They make cases for most phones and you can find a full list of the mountable phone gear they make here.

2. Qalo Rings and Ring Cases, $19.99

The Qalo ring is a pretty cool concept. The silicone wedding band was created by two guys who were tired of losing, damaging and misplacing their wedding rings during physical endeavors.

However, wearing a wedding band was still important to them and they hated the idea of marriage or family being looked at as something that held them back, especially when it came to physical activity. Thus, the Qalo ring was born.

After two lost wedding rings, I finally gave in and bought my husband one to wear full time. At only $20, it isn’t expensive to replace and it’s super comfortable for him to wear any time, even when he’s lifting weights.

I on the other hand still prefer my classic wedding ring. It was my grandmother’s and it’s quite large, meaning I frequently have to take it off, especially when I’m at the gym. My husband’s Qalo ring came with a small mesh pouch that attaches like a keychain and it is just perfect for storing my ring when I’m working out.

I don’t have to remember to bring it in with me since it’s attached to my keys. It zips, so I don’t have to worry about the rings falling out. The simplicity and genius of it really makes it one of my favorite products.

Unfortunately for you, Qalo does not sell the pouches separately from the rings. However, I would say it’s easily worth a $20 investment to not only test out Qalo’s awesome silicone bands, which can be used for everything from CrossFit to rock climbing but also just to get ahold of that little mesh pouch that’s made my life so much easier.gifts for gym rats

3. Cooler Bags, $79.99

Being a clean eater has its perks — looking great, living longer and feeling amazing, just to name a few. However, there is a dark side of eating healthy and it’s called washing dishes twice a day and cleaning green bean juice out of my purse.

However, there are lines of bags like these offered by Six Pack Fitness that will make your life eating Paleo and doing meal prep much easier.gifts for gym rats

This bag helps keep your food cool while preventing it from leaking, accidentally opening in your gym bag or just being a disorganized mess in general.

It’s also pretty neat that you can buy bags that look like purses, gym bags or coolers, depending on your style and when you’re going to be carrying. For example, if you work in an office, you may not want to haul around a large cooler and instead prefer the bag or backpack option.

4. BlenderBottle ProStak, $13.99Screen Shot 2016-01-28 at 12.01.07 PM

If you’ve ever purchased protein in bulk, you know that it comes in huge tubs that are not ideal for hauling back and forth to the gym.

If you’ve ever had your tail handed to you by a CrossFit workout, you know that oftentimes you can’t rely on your hands, arms and legs to be steady after a workout and you leave the gym floor looking like a Scarface scene while trying to fix a protein shake. scarface

These bottles take the hassle out of all of it. You can add your protein powder into the small compartment at the bottom along with any other supplements you mix in before running out the door to the gym and then boom, you’ve got a protein shake ready to go as soon as you finish your workout as opposed to looking like Snape in the corner of the gym mixing potions.

They even offer an option where you can store any vitamins or supplements you take by mouth as well, making this bottle your one-stop-shop after a workout and eliminating the need to carry an entire bag full of bottles to and from your box.

5. Perchmount XL Phone Holder, $19.99

The Perchmount XL is a Rogue product similar to the RokForm case in the sense that it makes your phone accessible while working out at the rig.

However, instead of a phone accessory, this is actually a mount you can place on the rig (or on the rower, or any other magnetic surface in the gym) to hold your phone. It’s perfect for recording yourself during workouts or pulling up weight statistics.

Because let’s be real…if a video or photo is not on social media, did you even go to the gym?gifts for gym rats

This mount also includes a magnetic base station, meaning you can set your phone up…pretty much anywhere. It’s also compatible with almost any phone, even with a case on.

6. I Love Fran Shirts, $19.99

Our I Love Fran shirts are a classic gift for everyone’s (least) favorite CrossFit girl. If you don’t know what Fran is, ask any CrossFitter to introduce you to one of the most notorious and brutal WODs in existence.

Our I Love Fran shirts come in women’s fitted tees, men’s tees and racerback tanks. Click here to order yours today.

7. Barehand Gloves, $34.99gifts for gym rats

I cannot say enough good things about Barehand Gloves. The first unique thing about these gloves is that they actually make them to fit your hand. So when my husband ordered his several months ago, he actually had to send in his measurements so they could make him a custom pair of gloves.

Fast forward six weeks — yes, it does take a while to make because they create each pair to fit you individually — and his gloves arrived in the mail. For the first few weeks he used them in the gym, I didn’t really pay much attention. However, when I started experiencing a lot of pain on the tops of my hands from heavy weight training, I snagged them to use one afternoon.

The second unique thing about these gloves that they don’t feel like you’re wearing gloves. They protect your hands while still allowing you to grip and move naturally. Second of all, they’re small and aren’t as bulky as regular weight lifting gloves. Third of all, I can use them on the rig and when I’m lifting to protect my baby hands from ripping or just getting raw.

Now, we fight over his pair of Bare Hands every night at the gym. These are a definite winner if you’re looking for a functional gift.

8. Subscription Boxes

Monthly subscription boxes have been all the rage for a few years now, and the trend continues with CrossFitters. With options like WodBom, Gainz Box and Barbella, you can surprise your favorite CrossFitter with a box of goodies each month.
