Preparing for the Open

The CrossFit Open is less than a month away, and whether you’re an elite competitor chasing that Regionals qualification, or an average CrossFitter looking to improve on your score from last year, it’s time for some fine tuning to get you ready for go-time.

If you need a refresher on what the CrossFit Open is, and exactly how it works, be sure to check out these awesome guides here and here!

This year’s competition kicks of the week of Feb. 25, and with Dave Castro’s devious mind, it’s bound to be one of the best yet. Like in years past, the workouts will be announced during a live broadcast Thursday at 5 p.m. PT (that’s 8 p.m. for those of us on the East Coast), and athletes will have four days to complete the workout and submit their score via the CrossFit website or Open App.

Here’s the full schedule for the 5 week competition:

Open Schedule

Feb. 25 – March 28, 2016
16.1: Feb. 25 – 29
16.2: March 3 – 7
16.3: March 10 – 14
16.4 March 17 – 21
16.5 March 24 – 28

To get you ready for your best year yet, we’ve called in the big guns with some tips to step your game up in the last few weeks leading up to the Open.

Enter Talayna Fortunato, CrossFit Games competitor boasting impressive finishes of third overall in 2012 and fifth in 2013, not to mention a slew of other athletic accomplishments including the MVP award at Southern Utah University for the entire athletic student body her senior year in collegiate Div. 1 gymnastics, and a member of the 2001 National Champion Level 10 team for gymnastics.

Not only is Talayna a fierce CrossFit competitor, but she also holds her master’s in physical therapy, is certified in Level 1 Dry Needling, Full bodyART, and has taken the Selective Functional Movement Assessment.

Basically, this chick knows her stuff, and took a few minutes between competing at Wodapalooza and heading down to the Bahamas for the Reebok Athlete Summit to give us some tips to be at the top of our game this year for the Open.
